What's the Difference Between Lithium Batteries and Lead Acid Batteries?

Lithium Batteries vs Lead Acid Batteries

1. Materials

Lead acid batteries use lead as an anode and lead oxide as a cathode. Lithium batteries use carbon as the anode and lithium oxide as the cathode.


2. Charging speed

Lithium batteries charge at a much faster rate. They can be fully charged in just minutes to a couple of hours, while lead acid batteries can take over 10 hours to recharge. 


3. Durability 

The lifespan of a lithium battery is almost double that of a lead acid battery. They don't need to be replaced as frequently and are more reliable for long-term use.


4. Size

Another point of comparison is size. Lithium batteries tend to be smaller and lighter than lead acid batteries, which is useful for portable charging. 


5. Cycle Life

With a cycle life of 5000, lithium batteries can complete the charge and discharge cycle for longer before the quality is impacted. Lead acid batteries measure around 300 to 500, a significantly shorter cycle life.
